The State Visit from Ireland commenced on 14 October, when His Majesty King Harald officially greeted President of Ireland Mary McAleese and her husband, Dr. Martin McAleese, in the Palace Square. The State Visit took place from 14-16 October.
Princess Märtha Louise gave birth to a daughter
Today, at 12.53 pm, Her Highness Princess Märtha Louise gave birth to a daughter at her and Mr Ari Behn's home in Lommedalen outside Oslo.
100% Norway in London
On Wednesday, 18 September 2008, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit officially opened the design exhibition 100% Norway in London. This is the fifth consecutive year in which the exhibition has been held.
Inaugural Kavli Prizes presented
The recently instituted Kavli Prizes are awarded for outstanding research in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon presented the 2008 prizes at an awards ceremony held in Oslo Concert Hall on 9 September.
Humanitarian Fund
The board of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Humanitarian Fund has awarded a grant to the Nicaraguan organisation Fundación Xochiquetzal [Fundasion Šusital].
Queen Sonja at the Mela Festival

Research on environmental contaminants
After four days onboard the research vessel Oden, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark arrived in New Ålesund Thursday.
Into the Polar ice
Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark have joined researchers onboard the ice-breaker Oden for a five-day expedition in the waters off the coast of the Svalbard archipelago.
The Palace open to the public
The public season at the Royal Palace started Saturday. The Palace will be open to visitors from 21 June to 17 August. The guided tour takes visitors through some of the most beautiful state rooms in the Royal Palace.

President Nguyen Minh Triet and Mrs Tran Thi Kim Chi of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam paid a formal State Visit to Norway on 5 and 6 June. The President and First Lady came to Norway at the invitation of His Majesty King Harald.
Final day in Portugal
On the final day of their State Visit to Portugal, Their Majesties the King and Queen travelled to the city of Porto. King Harald took part in a seminar on Norwegian-Portuguese cooperation on cancer research, while Queen Sonja visited the Serralves Foundation Museum of Contemporary Art.

The Crown Prince at Isla Negra
Saturday was the final day of His Royal Highness The Crown Prince’s official visit to Chile. Crown Prince Haakon visited Isla Negra, home of the poet Pablo Neruda, and attended a reception for Norwegian citizens living in Chile.

Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and Crown Princess attended the Ministry of Finance seminar ”Investing for the future”. The Crown Prince gave the opening speech at the seminar, which has broad international participation.
Capital of Culture 2008

The Holberg International Memorial Prize 2007 was awarded Mr Ronald Dworkin. His Royal Highness The Crown Prince presented The Prize at a ceremony in Bergen 28 November.
Final day of State Visit to Germany
On the final day of the State Visit to Germany, His Majesty The King gave the opening address at an energy seminar, and opened a new power plant in Düsseldorf. Her Majesty The Queen visited the Red Dot Design Museum and the Norwegian-German Youth Forum in Essen.

The second day of the State Visit to Germany started with a wreath-laying ceremony at Neue Wache, followed by a visit to the Jewish Museum. After meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel, Their Majesties The King and Queen attended the 2007 Willy Brandt Award Ceremony.

Their Majesties The King and Queen are on a three-day State Visit to Germany. On Monday, The King and Queen arrived in Berlin, where they were officially greeted by President Horst Köhler and Mrs Eva Luise Köhler at Schloss Bellevue.

Saturday, Their Majesties The King and Queen visited Molde and Aukra, where His Majesty The King officially opened the Ormen Lange gas terminal at Nyhamna.
National Science Week
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon attended the opening of National Science Week 2007 at the University of Oslo on Friday. This is the 13th Science Week carried out in Norway, and events will be taking place throughout the country during the coming 10-day period.
State Visit from Brazil
The President of Brazil, HE Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Mrs Marisa Letícia da Silva were greeted by Their Majesties The King and Queen, and Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and Crown Princess in a welcoming ceremony at the Palace Square Thursday.
Winner of the Music Competition
Baritone Audun Iversen was the winner of the Queen Sonja International Music Competition for 2007. Mr Iversen was also the recipient of the Ingrid Bjoner Scholarship, which was awarded for the first time this year.
The Crown Prince visiting Burundi
His Royal Highness The Crown Prince is visiting Burundi as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The visit, which starts on 29 October, will be focusing on the UN millennium goals.
The Royal Party through Blindleia
On Friday, the Royal party reached Gamle Hellesund, where they embarked K/B Stjernen and barges to sail thourgh Blindleia. On Thursday evening the vessels arrived in Ny Hellesund, where they spent the night.
The celebration continues
The Royal Yachts Norge and Dannebrog and the KNM Horten have left Stavanger, and the barges carrying the Royal party arrived in Spangereid on Thursday morning. Later in the day, the trip continued on to the lighthouse at Lindesnes.
Celebration of The Queen
On Wednesday morning the Royal Yacht landed in Stavanger and the Royal Family disembarked at Skagenkaien, where they were greeted by Mayor Leif Johan Sevland. Most of the other Royal guests arrived in Stavanger during the day.
Europe Graduate Programme Competition
Thursday, His Royal Highness The Crown Prince officially opened the fourth JA – YE Europe Graduate Programme Competition in Oslo. Twelve student enterprises have reached the finals.
Celebration of The Queen's 70th birthday
The celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th birthday will commence in Stavanger on Wednesday 4 July, and will continue with a cruise along the coast of Southern Norway, terminating at the King and Queen’s holiday retreat at Mågerø. Most of the Royal guests will arrive in Stavanger on Wednesday.
