The final day of The King and Queen’s State Visit to South Africa included seminars on research and education, a guided tour of the Uitsig Clinic and a visit with young sailors at the Zeekovlei Yacht Club.

Their Majesties The King and Queen travelled to Cape Town for the second day of their state visit to South Africa, where they attended an official luncheon with the South African Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and their representatives.

On Tuesday, Their Majesties The King and Queen began a three-day state visit to South Africa, where they headed a delegation of representatives from the Norwegian government, cultural and business sectors.

Today, Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess officially opened the prototype of the world’s first osmotic power plant. The facility – which has attracted international attention – generates power by utilising the energy unleashed when freshwater meets seawater.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon concluded his three-day visit in Botswana by holding a lecture on the UN Millennium Development Goals at the University of Botswana.

Her Majesty the Queen was in attendance at the finals of the Queen Sonja International Music Competition at the new Opera House in Oslo on 21 August. Baritone Seung Gi Jung of South Korea won the competition, and was awarded the prize by the Queen herself.

The recipients of grants from Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Humanitarian Fund for 2009 were announced at an event at the House of Literature in Oslo on 27 August.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon visited Afghanistan on 24 August with General Sverre Diesen. The Crown Prince received an introduction into the contribution of the Norwegian Armed Forces to stabilising and rebuilding the country.

The second day of the official visit to Mexico by Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and Crown Princess involved activities related to trade and industry, health and culture.

World AIDS Day was commemorated for the first time on 1 December 20 years ago. In keeping with the theme for World AIDS Day 2008 – Leadership – Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess has called for stronger leadership across the board.

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon visited Turkey 25 – 27 November 2008 on invitation by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Crown Prince headed a delegation of representatives of the Norwegian authorities and Norwegian trade and industry.
