Christmas concert at the Palace

This evening Their Majesties King Harald and Queen Sonja opened the doors to the Great Hall at the Palace for a Christmas concert for the very first time. The concert will be aired on Norwegian TV channel NRK 1 on Saturday, 17 December.

15.12.2011

The concert was organised in cooperation with The Crown Prince and Crown Princess' Fund. The main guests were two hundred young participants from the four projects supported by the Fund: “Kjør for livet” (Drive for life), “GatekunstAkademiet” (Street art academy), “Pøbelprosjektet” (Hooligan project) and “Arbeidsinstituttet” (Work institute).

King Harald and Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Marius, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Princess Märtha Louise were all in attendance at the concert.

- A special night

- This is a very special night for us, said the Crown Prince and Crown Princess, and tonight they wanted to share this concert with everybody in the Great Hall as well as the TV audience.

The programme featured traditional Christmas songs as well as recently composed tunes, and the performers were primarily young Norwegian artists. Katzenjammer started it all, followed by Ingrid Olava, Samsaya, Stein Torleif Bjella, Gunnhild Sundli, Vinni, Moddi, Ida Jenshus and Marit Larsen. They were accompanied by the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.

At the conclusion of the concert, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit gave thanks to all the performers before Ingrid Olava sang "Deilig er jorden" (Fairest Lord Jesus). Gradually, the other artists, as well as the audience, joined her.

We light our lanterns

The artists who performed at the concert also recorded songs for the Christmas album “Vi tenner våre lykter” (We light our lanterns). A portion of the profits from the album will go to The Crown Prince and Crown Princess' Fund.
