Got to experience a fantastic day in the Olympics

The last time this happened was during the Antwerp Olympics in 1920, according to NRK – 104 years ago. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess had the pleasure of cheering on several of the athletes. They attended handball, athletics, and beach volleyball from the stands on this day.

The schedule and geography made it impossible for the Royal couple to catch all the Norwegian medals that day. Solfrid Koanda secured gold in weightlifting, and Grace Bullen dominated her bronze match in wrestling.

Crown Prince Haakon had a longer stay in the Olympic city and attended several events in the days leading up to the grand finale. Taekwondo, diving, show jumping, and kayaking were on the programme, and he got to watch Grace Bullen in her round.

The Crown Prince also met the athletes in the Olympic village and attended a reception in honor of the Norwegian delegation, including participants and support staff, hosted by the Norwegian Embassy in Paris and the Norwegian Olympic Committee.

The first victory

The first Norwegian gold medal came before Crown Prince Haakon arrived in Paris. It was won by the young Markus Rooth with an outstanding performance in the decathlon.

Karsten Warholm ran to silver in the 400-meter hurdles, and Line Flem Høst took bronze – Norway’s first female Olympic medal in sailing in twenty years.

With the brilliant conclusion, Norway's total medal haul in Paris ended up being four golds, one silver, and three bronzes.
