Freestyle World Ski Championships
The 2013 Voss/Oslo FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships are now fully underway. His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon has been in attendance at the events in Oslo and Voss in recent days.
The Crown Prince has also been involved in recruiting volunteers to help out during the championships.
Crown Prince Haakon will be attending three of the six days of championship finals. On Monday 5 March he was at Wyllerløypa in Oslo, where the halfpipe finals were held. The Crown Prince presented the medals to the top three contestants in the mens and ladies competitions.
Aerials and moguls in Voss
Yesterday the Crown Prince attended the moguls finals at Myrkdalen in Voss, where he received expert guidance during the competition from former Olympic champion in freestyle Kari Traa, a native of Voss. The Crown Prince presented the medals for moguls and met a group of enthusiastic volunteers during the event.
This afternoon the Crown Prince continues his championships agenda at the aerials finals. Hans Eide, eight-time Norwegian champion in moguls and another Voss native, will be sharing his expert assessments with the Crown Prince during the event.
Volunteer activities
A great deal of volunteer effort goes into major sporting events of this type. The Crown Prince is an eager advocate of volunteerism and has been involved in activities for the Freestyle Championships as well. He has greeted many of the volunteers in Oslo and Voss and assisted in recruitment efforts by holding a presentation for volunteers from the Heming sports club in Oslo on 13 February.
Voss and Oslo
The 2013 Voss/Oslo FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships comprise 12 events in the period 2–10 March. Some 350 top athletes from 35–40 countries are competing.
The halfpipe event took place at Wyllerløypa in Oslo, while the moguls, dual moguls, ski cross, aerials and slope style events are being held at the challenging Myrkdalen site in the municipality of Voss, where several million kroner has been invested to ensure a top-modern facility.
