The Crown Princess in New York City

The meeting, which brings together leaders from around the world, convened on Sunday. During the three-day event, heads of state, leading officials from the public and private sectors, representatives of NGOs, and trade and industry actors met to discuss global challenges and to evaluate ongoing projects.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit attended the opening on Sunday and took part in a number of sessions until the meeting concluded on Tuesday afternoon.

The Seamen’s Church

On Sunday afternoon the Crown Princess attended a celebratory worship service at the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in New York City.

During the service, Margareth Glad was installed as the new minister for the Seamen’s Church.

Sustainable fashion design

On Tuesday the Crown Princess spoke during an annual luncheon held under the auspices of Fashion 4 Development (F4D). The organisation has direct ties to the UN Secretariat that is headed by the UN Secretary General, and works to promote sustainable fashion design. F4D seeks to mobilise the fashion industry in creative ways to stimulate economic development and combat poverty.

In her remarks the Crown Princess made mention of Leila Hafzi of Norway as an example of a fashion designer who is working actively in this field.

Several events

On Tuesday evening Crown Princess Mette-Marit was a guest at a dinner held at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was also in attendance, representing the Norwegian Government.

On Wednesday the Crown Princess was invited to speak on the topic of global health challenges, focusing on girls and young women in particular. The breakfast meeting was held under the auspices of the global advocacy organisation Women Deliver, and explored how private business can take part in financing targeted projects for girls in developing countries.

Other speakers included Jeni Klugman of the World Bank, World YWCA General Secretary Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda and Barbara Pierce Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush and co-founder of Global Health Corps.
