A visit to Oscarshall
The summer palace of Oscarshall is located on the Bygdøy peninsula just outside Oslo city centre, surrounded by a romantic park. It is open to the public in the summer, and in 2025 the season will last from 10 May until 31 August.
The doors to the summer palace are open during visitors' hours and guests are welcome to explore the rooms on the ground floor and first floor. Guides are available to answer any questions.
On the ground floor, we find the vestibule with its almost sacral atmosphere. In the Salon, both the furniture and the ornamentation emphasise the medieval atmosphere, and evoke the style of the old Norwegian guildhall. The Dining hall is deocorated by the Norwegian painters Joachim Frich and Adolph Tidemand.

The Dining Hall at Oscarshall is in a separate annexe, connected to the main building by an open loggia. The walls of the Dining Hall are decorated with paintings by the Norwegian artists Joachim Frich and Adolph Tidemand. Visitors to the 1st floor can also see the King's appartment there.

We encourage visitors to take a walk in the park as part of the visit. There is no need for a ticket to enjoy the garden or visit the café.
Originally, when the Royal Family visited Oscarshall, their servants stayed here in "the gentlemen's quarter". Today, there is a small outdoor stage here. Photo: Jan Haug, the Royal Court
