The Department of Security

The Department is charged with protecting the safety of the Royal Court employees and all guests to the Palace, while the security of the Royal Family is provided by the Personal Protection Service of the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST).

The Security Department is also responsible for security measures related to the royal properties. Necessary measures are assessed based on the use of the properties, their symbolic value, and their historical importance. The work is conducted in close cooperation with the Royal Estates and Parks department.

The Department consists of the Reception and Security section, the Transport section, and employees who have the day-to-day responsibility for preventive safety efforts at the Royal Court. Preventive efforts include, among other things, producing access cards, conducting security and authorization interviews, receiving mail and goods, operating technical security systems, and ensuring security at events.

The Guard and Reception Section

The section is responsible for the Palace's security control center and reception, which is staffed around the clock, every day of the year. The work carried out in the mail and goods reception area is also handled by staff from the section. In their daily work, they are also responsible for coordinating the orderlies – guards from His Majesty the King's Guard. The orderlies carry out internal and external courier services and assist with transport assignments.

The Transport Section

The section is responsible for providing chauffeur services for members of the Royal House, and to maintain and oversee the Palace’s fleet of vehicles. The vehicles are used by members of the Royal House on official and private occasions, and to Court employees who need them in the performance of their official duties.

The section work closely with the the Personal Protection Service of the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST).

The Security Department is led by Chief of Security Lars Ivar Frøystad.
