In focus: Climate and the environment

The Crown Princess has taken responsibility for the environmental activities of the Royal Court and heads the internal environmental committee comprised of employees from all departments. The objective of the committee is to increase environmental awareness throughout the organisation and make it easier to make environment-friendly choices – both in the activities of the Royal Court and in the official duties of the Royal Family.

Universal platform

The Crown Princess is concerned that individuals make choices in their daily lives to make a positive contribution to the whole. Nobody can do it all, but everyone can do something!

The Crown Princess is committed to incorporating concern for the environment into all the areas in which she is involved. This applies to design and architecture, technological development, entrepreneurship and use of natural resources.

Health of the oceans

Crown Princess Mette-Marit is particularly concerned about the health of the oceans – especially microplastic, which poses a serious threat to marine life. Both officially and privately, she has taken part in many beach cleaning actions – also together with Her Majesty The Queen.

 The ocean has always been one of the most important sources of income and employment for Norwegians. The ocean is also a source of recreation and enjoyment, which is important to safeguard.

All of this contributes to the Crown Princess’s commitment to preserving the health of the oceans.
